2008 FOALS ON THEIR WAY!

We have 3 foals due this year and our first foal is due May 9, just a little more than a month away!  We have a new Foals link that has all upcoming foals as well as past foals that we have had at our farm.

We are holding our first annual Name the Foal Competition for our foals due in 2008 and have already received many wonderful name suggestions - thank you to everyone who has submitted thus far.  We encourage you to submit as many name suggestions as you wish.  There will be 4 winners selected: 3 winners for foal name suggestions and 1 random draw.  Winners will receive a $100 gift certificate to the tack store of their choice.

FARM UPDATE

Volaré (Clair de Lune x Viva Voltaire) has been sold to Melissa Polier of Pennsylvania.  Melissa plans on showing Volaré in A/A hunter shows in the future.  Melissa sent us the following update on April 7, 2008:

"Hello, Volaré continues to do well and is really so well behaved and very sweet! He definitely has personality as well. I picked his feet today and put hardener on them, he had to tell me that was not his favorite thing! But again let me do it and was such a good boy.

His temperature is good and all is healthy! He really appears to have made the trip and new home adjustment very easily.

Friends came to see him Sunday and loved him! My vet, the one on maternity leave, is going to come for lunch and meet him at the end of the month. Again thank you, I really do love him. He continues to follow me around when I go out and seems to not want me to leave him! He is like a big dog just like my other horse Splash.

Take care and tell Marty hello, Melissa"

We wish Melissa and Volaré much success in their future show career and look forward to receiving some great updates.

For those that missed out on this super colt, we plan on breeding his dam Clair de Lune to For Play (by 2-time Olympic gold medal recipient for team show jumping, For Pleasure) for another gorgeous foal that may be offered for sale in utero.  Clair de Lune passes on her very laid back disposition to her foals and her lovely hunter movement (and 80% of the time, her dilute color!).

Catapult, our imported buckskin sabino Swedish Warmblood stallion prospect, has shot up in height again and is just shy of 16hh.  He will be 2 years of age in late June and is still an absolute joy to handle with his puppy dog disposition.  (The photo on the left was from the CSHA show in September 2007).  Thank you to those who have expressed interest in breeding to him.  We plan on possibly bringing him to a SWANA stallion pre-approval (for younger horses) this year to see how the judges like him.  We plan on bringing him to the SWANA stallion approvals as a 3 or 4 year old depending on his development, then we will have him shown in the jumper ring before we stand him to stud.  We will keep you updated on his progress.

We've also acquired a new mare named Travola.  She is a stunning, solid 16.3hh chestnut sabino mare that was imported from Holland as a yearling.  She had a successful show career with 13 placings in the top ten (including 2 wins, 2 second places, and 2 third places) and was competing in jumping at Level 6 (4'3" in height with spreads 4'3" to 4'9") until she developed an anomaly on her front pastern and the decision was made to retire her sound.  Her pedigree is Baloubet du Rouet x Nimmerdor x Le Mexico.  Baloubet du Rouet was declared the 2004 Best Horse in the World and with his rider Rodrigo Pessoa, won the Individual Gold Medal in show jumping at the 2004 Olympic games in Athens and were recipients of the Team Bronze Medal at the 2000 Olympic games in Sydney.

Nimmerdor was declared the Dutch Preferent Sire of the Century and competed in numerous World Cups and International competitions and was also selected for the Los Angeles Olympics.  Le Mexico was also a well-known jumper producer and obtained a high jumping breeding value of 146 and reliability of 96% due to the success of his progeny.  A good number of dams in Travola's pedigree have also received predicates including keur, preferent and prestatie.  We are considering a few boyfriends for Travola this year and have our eyes on For Pleasure or possibly Chin Chin.  With her unbelievable pedigree, we are hoping to produce foals that even Europeans will envy!

2008 BREEDING SEASON - BOYFRIEND SELECTIONS

Jamaica (imported buckskin Swedish Warmblood) will be bred to Olympic Concorde (Preferent KWPN).  This foal will have a 50% chance of being palomino or buckskin, can be registered with KWPN-NA or SWANA.

Clair de Lune (imported buckskin Swedish Warmblood) will be bred to For Play (Elite Hanov) a newly imported stallion.  This foal will have a 50% chance of being palomino or buckskin, 50% chance of being sabino and can be registered with SWANA.

Travola (imported sabino Dutch Warmblood) will possibly be bred to For Pleasure (Elite Hanov) or Chin Chin.  A For Pleasure foal would have a 75% chance of being sabino and can be registered with AHS.  A Chin Chin foal would have a 50% chance of being sabino and can be registered with KWPN-NA.

Until next time, happy horsing!
