  NEWS AND UPDATES... WE'RE OVERDUE!

It’s been a while since our last update as we’ve been extremely busy this season, but we like it like that!

For starters, we’ve added a new broodmare to our group.  We were very lucky to find another extremely rare buckskin Swedish Warmblood mare that was imported as a yearling.  Clair de Lune is a lovely mare and is a half sister to Jamaica (both by Bernstein).

Clair de Lune had a gorgeous buckskin filly, Clair My Way, this year who is a granddaughter of Voltaire.  This filly is being offered for sale (SuperiorHorse is the agent for this filly). There are photos and a video of this filly's unbelievable lofty trot on the website.

Unfortunately, we’ve had some difficulties getting Clair de Lune in foal.  She had only been live covered previously and after a great deal of time (and funds), we’ve discovered that she has a very poor breeding confirmation and will continue to pose challenges with getting in foal.

We’re not giving up hope though and will try breeding her a few more times this year (stallion still undecided – pending SWANA approval).  We had Olympic Concorde lined up for this mare, but because of her breeding challenges, we will not be continuing to use frozen semen with her and instead we will save the remaining dose of Concorde for one of our other mares for next year.

Both Boeneros and Brioso are now in the US. There are new photos and a video of Boeneros on the website.  Kate, Brioso’s new mom, gave us a fantastic review and we are so appreciative of her feedback.  Her comments can be read here: http://www.superiorhorse.net/success.html

Also on this page is a very nice review from one of our other clients, Sara, who had very sadly and unexpectedly lost her Medallion foal early this Summer and still maintains a wonderful relationship with us.  Our sincere condolences to Sara and Baylee for their loss.  We are so grateful to still have Sara as part of our ‘family’ and we thank you for all of your kind words about Medallion and our breeding program.

We added Astral (Swedish Warmblood) to our broodmare group with the hope that she was buckskin, but unfortunately, DNA typing revealed that she did not carry the cream dilution gene.  However, she IS dun – a color I didn’t even know existed in Swedish Warmbloods.  Dun is still considered a dilution gene, but is on a different gene than the one responsible for palominos and buckskins (cream gene).  Dun can cause the body of a horse to get just as light

as a buckskin (golden to flesh to nearly white), but dun horses have a characteristic dorsal stripe.  With being bred to Medallion, the foal still has a 50% chance of being a single dilute (palomino/buckskin or dun), but now we have a 25% chance of having a “dunskin” or “palodun” - a combination of both the cream and dun gene.  Astral is due in early June 2007 and the foal is available for sale in utero.

Watch the Lady (TB) is confirmed in foal to Guaranteed Gold (Cremello JC TB) for a guaranteed palomino or buckskin Jockey Club Thoroughbred foal due April 2007.  You can buy Lady in foal, or the foal separately (now priced at half of the price of most dilute Thoroughbreds now-a-days).

Irissari (“Iris”) was registered with the American Trakehner Association and as such, also received breeding approval with the Dutch Warmblood Association (KWPN-NA).  Iris is now the first ever registered palomino Trakehner with the ATA!  Iris  has been re-bred to Medallion and is confirmed in foal and is due in April 2007 and the foal is available for sale in utero.

SO... WHAT ABOUT MEDALLION!?

Medallion is handling his training and stallion duties very well.  I finished Medallion’s basic training a few months back - he is such a super mount and so easy to ride.  He was schooling over 3’3” fences before I took him for professional training with Grand Prix Dressage rider, Nadia McConnell, who has been working for the past 15 years with Eva-Maria Pracht, recipient of the Team Canada Bronze medal at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.  Nadia is putting the “finishing touches” on Medallion and is also preparing him for his Rhineland Pfalz Saar inspection in August.  I have been told by some of my associates in the Dressage crowd that Nadia has been overheard "bragging" about how fantastic Medallion is - a compliment we are very honored to receive.

Medallion is still offered for sale for those who had expressed interest.  If you require a new video of him under saddle, please contact me.  The new video (due mid-August) will include clips from his inspection and his shows.  Medallion will continue to stand at stud until sold and we now have frozen semen available so that we can continue having Medallion babies for years to come.

There are new photos and videos of Medallion under saddle on the website.  Medallion is so easy to ride that he is being ridden not only by Nadia, but also by two of Nadia's students, one of which will be showing Medallion at the Caledon CADORA show on August 19 & 20 in Training Tests 1-4.  The photo on the left is a student jumping Medallion at 4'0" - looks deceiving because Medallion makes jumping look so easy, but the white standard is 6' tall!

STILL TO COME...

Jamaica’s 2006 foal!  We are eagerly anticipating this foal’s arrival within the next week, and so is Jamaica with all of this heat lately, poor girl.  There is a 25% chance that this foal will be the FIRST EVER 100% Warmblood (no Thoroughbred blood for at least 4 generations) cremello foal to be born in the USA out of two imported Warmblood parents.  This foal will be registered with RPSI.  Be sure to check out our Foal-O-Meter.

Until next time, happy horsing!
